ABA SERVICES

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) has been proven to be the most effective method of autism intervention. It is a widely-researched scientific approach to learning that utilizes principles of behavior to help increase behavior that is supportive to the achievement of life goals and decrease challenging behaviors.

At AST our services are designed to serve three basic principles:

Individualization - Our therapy is individualized to every individual and their family.  There is no one size fits all.  Everything we do must be customized to meet the needs and goals of our clients.

Family Focus - We believe in supporting the whole family and including them in the therapy.  We want parents to understand what we are doing in therapy and know how to best support their family's goals when we are not there.  By educating parents on key strategies and routines, we ensure better generalization - that skills are demonstrated with or without an interventionist present.

Natural Environment - Service should be provided in a person's natural environment enabling them to learn in their natural routine and setting. We believe this allows for the greatest learning and generalization opportunities.

AST has an extraordinary team of professionals with diverse experience and expertise.  Our clinical team includes over 70 BCBAs and 6 PhDs. Learn more about the clinical team in your area as well as the services provided on our locations page.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Social skills goals are often integrated into our ABA programs.

The ability to navigate relationships and emotions is critical to social and occupational success.  Social situations are often awkward for individuals with autism, especially during the teen years, which can be challenging for anyone.

The need for social skills is vital throughout life. Having the ability to develop friendships, socialize at school and in the community are of significant importance in life. Social situations are often awkward for individuals with autism, especially during the teen years, which can be challenging for anyone.

AST’s social skills groups and programs can be instrumental to a child’s development of establishing friendships, building confidence and pursuing interests. Social skills programs can also be helpful in supporting independent living skills and job readiness.

Social Skills groups are available at AST Play & Learn Clinics located in San Diego (CA), Santa Ana (CA), Seattle (WA), Phoenix (AZ), Northbrook (IL) and New Orleans (LA).

ADULT AND TEEN SERVICES

Our intention is to be a guide and resource for every stage of your family’s needs.

We have outstanding programs and services to target your family’s goals at every age including teens and adults.

The teen years present new opportunities and challenges as individuals move into this new and often confusing developmental phase.  Some of the benefits of services at this stage can include the evolution of your child’s interests and personal choice to address the emerging need for independence.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY & SPEECH THERAPY

Offered on a limited basis at some locations.

Occupational therapy (OT) is part of our multidisciplinary approach, and helps children with developmental delays and disabilities learn to perform the activities of daily life such as eating, dressing, and playing with friends.

Speech and language therapy can also be part of a multidisciplinary approach. Challenges with speech are a common sign that a child might need supportive services.
